MATURE SKIN

Mature skin is skin that has naturally aged over time and shows lack of visible bounciness, moisture, and firmness. The skin’s natural renewal process slows down, leading to visible signs of aging.

While the term “anti-aging” has traditionally been used in skincare, we prefer a more modern and inclusive perspective — to age well. Rather than opposing the natural aging process, our approach is to support the skin in maintaining a balanced, and radiant healthy appearance over time.

            MORE ABOUT MATURE SKIN

            Typical characteristics of mature skin:
            • Appearance of fine lines and wrinkles: The first signs of mature skin are often appearance of fine lines, which may develop to more visible over time. These typically appear first around the eyes and mouth.
            • Loss of bounciness and visible firmness: With age, skin may appear looser and less firm, especially around the jawline and neck, due to natural changes in the skin's structure.
            • Dryness: Mature skin tends to lose moisture more quickly, as the skin’s natural oils decrease with age. This can lead to appearance of dryness, tightness, and flakiness.
            • Thinner skin: The outer layer of the skin (epidermis) becomes thinner, making the skin more sensitive.
            • Appearance of uneven skin tone: Excessive exposure to sun accumulated over time can appear as darker patches, making the skin tone uneven.
            • Visible redness: Visible redness may develop over time, particularly on the cheeks and around the nose, giving the appearance of small visible veins or discoloration.
            • Dullness: The skin may lose its natural glow and appear more matte or tired, as the skins natural exfoliation process slows down and old skin cells are not shed as efficiently.

            Causes of mature skin:
            • Aging: As part of natural aging process, the skin appears less firm and bouncy
            • Sun exposure: Prolonged sun exposure may lead to appearance of uneven skin tone and visible fine lines.
            • Lifestyle: Factors such as smoking, poor diet, stress, and lack of sleep can accelerate visible signs of visible signs of aging.
            • Hormonal changes: A drop in estrogen during menopause negatively affects the skin’s moisture balance and visible firmness.
            Skincare for mature skin:
            • Moisture and nourishment: Mature skin needs more intensive hydration and nourishment. Products containing ingredients like hyaluronic acid, ceramides, and glycerin help restore moisture balance and strengthen the skin barrier.
            • Active ingredients:

o  Vitamin A – Retinol and retinoids: These are known to diminish the visible effects of premature aging, helping to reduce appearance of fine lines and promoting more youthful look.

o  Peptides: These can help make the skin visibly firmer.

            • Antioxidants:

o  Ingredients like vitamin C, vitamin E, and niacinamide protect the skin from the visible effects of external stressors and can improve radiance and appearance of uneven skin tone.

o  Gentle exfoliation: Regular but mild exfoliation with AHA acids (like lactic acid or glycolic acid) can help exfoliation of old skin cells and give a fresher, more radiant look.

o  Sun protection: Sunscreen is essential for mature skin to protect the skin from the visible effects of excessive sun exposure. Use a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher daily.

o  Richer products: Switch lighter moisturizers for richer, more nourishing products with oils and lipids, such as squalane and ceramides.

o  Eye cream: Since the skin around the eyes is thinner and more prone to visible fine lines and wrinkles, a targeted eye cream with vitamin A/retinol, hydrolyzed yeast extract, or oat can be beneficial.

            Lifestyle factors:
            • Sleep: Getting enough sleep helps the skin recover and maintain its elasticity.
            • Diet: A diet rich in antioxidants, healthy fats, and vitamins can improve and maintain healthy looking skin from within.
            • Hydration inside and out: Consuming enough fluids through food and drink helps keep the skin hydrated and supple.

By combining targeted skincare with a healthy lifestyle, mature skin can remain radiant, resilient, and well-nourished.
